It isn't a secret that the Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2022 ultra mini skirts had the fashion world in a chokehold. The preppy set was seen all over magazine covers; Nicole Kidman on Vanity Fair, Iris Law in British Vogue and Yugo Takano for Dazed Korea. Essentially, the micro skirt was hard to miss.
Fall 2022 started where Miu Miu left off last season. The skirts went from smoking in the classroom to pissing off the referee on the tennis court. And I love it. With the white and blue palette, the skirts have made their way to Wimbledon chic.
Albeit the popularity of the skirt, many aren’t too happy with its return this season. Netizens feel that Miuccia is trying to piggyback the popularity of the skirt (plausible) and deemed themselves bored. While everyone loves to see something new, I don’t think this comeback was lazy. It almost felt like an attempt at slow fashion and allowing trends to brew for more than a mere season. Other than the silhouette, Miuccia took a fresh take on the skirt. She played with the fabrics, colours and gave us a peek of the silky satin underwear. The two collections kept true to their preppy girl aesthetics but built upon different aspects of the vibe, creating almost a connected series of collections.
Reintroducing the skirt could be a pivotal move in the direction of sustainable trends and people need to realise that. The return of the micro skirt simply has me ecstatic for the future of Miu Miu. Will we see more takes on the skirt or is a new fad written in the cards?

i think what you wrote about the comeback not being lazy is so true! Although everyone wants to see MORE creativity and new trends come up, i think it’s important to let trends run its course longer and less fickle than they are.
