It’s fashion month! As Fashion month started with a bang in New York, we are already nearing the end with Paris fashion week on the 28th. Here is a rundown of some of my favourite collections from each fashion week, starting with New York.
PETER DO

Peter Do, was probably the most talked-about designer on my Twitter feed when his collection was released. It was only his second show but Do’s sleek silhouettes and expressive minimalism seemed to be building a signature style. Even though his colour palette of black, white, camel and grey was traditional, the structure and cut of each outfit seemed bold. My personal favourites were looks 10 and 11, which sported the unnecessary yet unique side cut in the jean. It elevated the otherwise simple look, adding the essence of Do. From exaggerated lapels and hip, belts Do played with the concept of femininity and comfort. An article with Vogue Runway Do stated that: “I wanted to do fashion that feels the most me,... I really like the suit. I like that it takes time to make, that you don’t need to buy many, and that when you find a good one, it becomes your safe space. I want to be that for women.” Do has achieved just that. The simplistic silhouettes, pleated maxi skirts and suits are modest yet empowering and sexy. They radiate confidence. It takes away the grim of the collared shirts and sharp blazer world and creates more fun and relaxed atmosphere. It’s like corporate chic for the confident modern woman.
COLLINA STRADA

Collina Strada might’ve been my favourite collection on the New York fashion week runways. The quirky cuts and bright colour palettes drew me back to the early 2000s’. Nothing screams Y2K more than low rise skirts, cargo pants and bold metallic fabrics. Every outfit seems like something straight from a Britney Spears MTV performance, and I’m here for it. A couple of looks throughout the collection stray from the regular vibe, for example, Look 5 and Look 8. Gowns and pants that have exaggerated hips could be an ode to Rei Kawakubo's “Lumps and Bumps” collection. However, my favourite part of the collection was the short film “The Collinas” which served as a spoof of the reality show “The Hills” starring Tommy Dorfman, the film revolves around Tommy getting an internship at Collina Strada and dealing with new workplace conventions. It is silly and dramatic for all its airheaded reasons. Overall the collection was fun and playful.
MARC JACOBS

Marc Jacobs's Spring 2022 Ready-To-Wear collection was the perfect blend of the present and future. With the long sleek skirts and astray pieces of fabric, the collection brought me back to the fashion of the 2021 hit, Dune. Looks 1 and 2 embodied the futuristic sand brown outfits of the Fremens. The futurism intertwined in this collection is most apparent through the complimentary makeup and hair. The bold white and black smoky eyes almost come off like a pair of sunglasses. The simple colour palette of white and black helps to reinforce the minimalistic aura of the future. The collection is made up of a variety of interesting textures including denim and puffer coats. The asymmetric cut knitwear makes quite the minimalistic statement. It was a small yet comprehensive collection.
Look forward to other reviews soon!
